Meditation During the Bad Times

Life is not just rainbows and butterflies. I wish it could be, but things in life happen that sometimes knock us off our feet. Sorrow, grief, and sadness can be all consuming during these times.

Unfortunately I’ve had to experience such great sorrow that is all consuming. I’ve woken up in the middle of the night sobbing and unable to stop my thoughts from running it makes my head hurt.

Sitting in meditation has been a huge challenge and finding a space of peace nearly impossible.

One night I woke to the image of a cartoon character that was walking around with a black cloud over his head (not sure if that’s a real cartoon character or not) but it was the image I had. I saw this character walking somberly along, and I then saw the sun breaking through the black cloud, and there were rays of sunshine now shining down on this little character. It brought me some peace that the sun was breaking through.

I’ve been able to slow the monkey mind when I focus on feeling Awareness in my body.   I mentally do a body scan and focus on my breathing, trying to slow my breath while allowing my mind to scan the body. This has been my meditation during this difficult time.

We all experience difficult times; it is a part of life. Trying to stay out from under that black cloud will take time, daily practice and work.

Love those that are in your life for you never know when they will be taken away from you. If you love someone, tell him or her every single day.

I end with this quote from Pema Chodron:

Healing comes from letting there be a room for all of “this” to

happen:  room for grief, for relief, for misery, for joy.

With Gratitude,

Michelle
